She is also a collaborator of the Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE), a research unit of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of the University of Lisbon. Her research activity has been focused on supramolecular chemistry to improve drugs properties such as solubility, palatability, and mechanical properties, using green chemistry approaches.
She is proficient in several solid-state analytical methods, such as mid and near infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry.

Nowadays Mafalda Sarraguça main research interest is focused on targeted design, synthesis, and characterization of Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) and Therapeutic Deep Eutectic Solvents (THEDES) for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.
Overall, she is the co-author of 38 peer-reviewed publications (more than 800 citations and 16-h index) in international journals, 8 of them as correspondent author. She is also the co-author of 4 invited book-chapters. Supervised several PhD, master and research training students.  She has 31 oral communications, being 5 invited, in national and international conferences. She also has 44 poster presentations. Mafalda Sarraguça participated in six scientific projects has researcher, three nationals and three internationals (one European starting in 2022- IMPACTIVE). She is the co-PI of a FCT project (Honey2KILL). She is a member of COST Action CA18224- Green Chemical Engineering Network towards upscaling sustainable processes in which she is responsible for the COST Tweeter account, and COST Action CA 18112- Mechanochemistry for Sustainable Industry in which she has a role as Gender Balance co-leader and is part of the communication team.
